The Department of Planning, Development and Acquisition currently has a budget that is close to 7 million dollars. According to the Parks and Recreation Department, the purpose of this budget is to provide money to acquire, plan, design, develop and coordinate construction of new and existing parks.
Surely in such difficult financial times there is no need for our city to be looking to acquire land for new parks? We should be concentrating on maintaining our current parks and keeping them clean, safe and attractive for our community and especially, our children.
The money could be put to better use elsewhere, like improving and maintaining current community/ youth centers, rather than kept for projects that will cost more money to manage and will require more expenses to upkeep.
