I disagreeI suggest that dealing with all music and entertainment DVD's be stopped. This material can all be gotten in other ways without cost to the taxpayer.

I disagreeLibraries are crucial to the functioning of the city of Seattle. They provide youth with a place to go after school, internet access for those who do not have internet in their homes, and books and other resources for communities around the city. For these reasons, I don't think any libraries should be permanently closed in the Seattle area. Instead, we could take another furlough week. Two furlough weeks would save the city about $1.3 million dollars, or roughly half the proposed cut. I think taking away libraries is unfair and unjust, and extending the furlough days would allow the libraries to remain open to the public for the rest of the year.

I disagreeI think you should increase the number of furlough days in the Library system to 2 weeks instead of the 1 week you took the past two years. Instead of having the days in one consecutive block however, you should spread it out so each branch is shut down for a total of 14 days throughout the year, but the days are spread out, and if a branch is closed, the next closest branch will still be open and available to patrons. ...more »

It will save close to 1.3 million dollars and the libraries would not be closed for long periods of time and it will not cause many inconveniences for locals.

I disagreeI suggest when evaluating the library budget, you should not cut any departments that have to do with community classes or programs and technology. Over 7 million people visited the Seattle Public Library in 2009, which means the library is our biggest and most important community center in thecity. I suggest the Seattle Public Library continues to purchase new databases and downloadable resources. Also, the Seattle ...more »

I suggest the Seattle Public Library continues to purchase new databases and downloadable resources. Also, the Seattle Public Library should continue to provide free lectures and classes to the public.

I disagreePlease do not cut the Seattle Public Library budget so much. We need our libraries to be open on Fridays and we want all our libraries to be staffed by librarians. We do not want them to become warehouses for books.

I disagreeHelp solve library budget crisis by charging a small fee when each time an individual places a "hold" on library materials. It's extra work for our library system and an added convenience for the public. Well worth it!

I disagreeRestore funding to keep all library branches open on Friday.

I disagreeAllow us to donate e-books to the collection. I love my e-reader but the e-book collection doesn't have the greatest selection. I'm sure the overhead to add it to the collection would be on the order of minutes rather than hours with physical books, why not make an easy way for us to do it?

I disagreeCut administrative salaries to keep our librarians in our communities. Administrative salaries could be cut throughout the library and city to pay for those professionals that actually serve the community. Stop paying for services by cutting those who serve the most!

I disagreeI suggest you...charge 25 cents for each hold not picked up.

I disagreeRight now if there is a long waiting list for a popular book or titles missing from the collection by a poplular author, the library can't accept my nearly new copy that I want to donate. There are some good reasons for this, but many of those issues are an easy fix. Allow us to help

I disagreeKeep librarians in libraries! We voted for the Libraries For All bond measure because we wanted to promote literacy, community, social justice and providing information and materials to all, regardless of socioeconomic class. Taking librarians, professionals and experts on all of these issues, is NOT what Seattle voted for. We did not vote for millions of dollars for warehouses of DVDs or ebooks or anything physical. ...more »

I disagreeI suggest you have more libraries open before 11 or 1 pm as is now the case. Many people find that they are most productive during morning hours and that can include library research, computer usage and time for babies and toddlers 1-3 year old with their caregivers. Also, as you make improvements to libraries cultivate awareness of the Friends of Libraries and other fund raising opportunities..

I disagreeHave convenient drop-off spots to drive up and return books - in grocery store lots for instance. Books will circulate faster; fewer needed; less hassle all around.

I disagreeI suggest you librarians are too vital a resource to cut. People need reference help more than ever because of drastic cuts, lost jobs, and the other disasters of an unequal system. Without a librarian, all you've got is a warehouse not a library. Cut some salaries at the top of city administration--that's where the fat is located.

I disagreeAllow Seattle Public Library to have an internship program for teens. A great way to have some staffing and for teens to gain valuable experience at the library, serving customers, learning about resources. A win-win since budgets are tight and teens want experience to apply for jobs or advanced education.

I disagreeCharge library patrons .50 to hold items. This will pay for the cost of City transportation to haul books and other materials placed on hold, from one library branch to another. Many libraries do this across the country.

I disagreeStop punishing the lower income communities. You want to close the South Park Library which we worked so hard to get. You have taken away our bridge, please stop, find another way!

I disagreeDon't you dare close any libraries.

I disagreeI suggest you...keep the south park library open and even extend the hours..
We fought for just about a 100 years for this library - we intend to keep it - Given the our other issues and neighborhood economic conditions this is about the worst idea I've heard.

I disagreePlease, please, please don't close the South Park branch library! It is one small step toward equality for South Park's citizens, and it is SUCH an important resource!!!

I disagreePromote expanded convention capacity downtown by renting out space in city buildings--in particular at the central library.
Promote rental of neighborhood libraries for neighborhood events, etc.

I disagreeI suggest charging a nominal fee, such as $0.25/item, from adult (>18 YO) patrons for checking out materials from the library. Our libraries are crowded and we must NOT close them!!!

I disagreeAllow library fines to be paid online or at check-out with credit cards. This will increase cash flow, rather than waiting months to collect.
