Refuse permits for the deep bore tunnel on Seattle's waterfront. Save over $900 million in Seattle city money ($1,500 per Seattle resident).
I suggest you only pay for car infrastructure projects using fees on car users. The 40% of Seattle residents who do not drive on a daily basis are subsidizing car users through property taxes and the general fund, which pay for over 96% of Seattle's transportation infrastructure. This should not happen. Make car users pay for their own infrastructure, including paying for the majority of Seattle city property (roads ...more »
I suggest you implement a $20 vehicle license fee.
I suggest you implement a $25 "head tax" on local employees who commute alone by car. Employees who commute by bus, light rail, commuter rail, streetcar, water taxi, bicycle, walking, carpool, or vanpool would be exempt. This would raise over $4.5 million per year, closing almost 10% of the 2011-2012 budget gap. It would be a sustainable revenue source, allowing the city to implement human services, road maintenance, ...more »
Pledge to make Seattle "Car-Free By 2020". Seattle will become the safest, healthiest, and greenest city in the world. The economy will boom due to tourism, incredible freight mobility, and the thousands of dollars per person that will free up every year instead of paying oil and car companies. Hundreds of millions of dollars of tax money will be saved every year by not spending on car-only infrastructure. Transit, ...more »
I suggest you implement tolls on all major Seattle bridges (Fremont Bridge, Ballard Bridge, University Bridge, Montlake Bridge, South Park Bridge, etc.). Add an HOV/transit lane that is exempt from tolling.
This is one small step for car users to start paying for themselves, instead of sucking over $100 milion per year of subsidies out of property tax and the general fund.
I suggest you implement red light cameras at most red lights in the city. This would raise millions in needed revenue and discourage dangerous lawbreaking.
But please, find a more local contractor that is not based in Arizona.
