$13 Million for bicycle lanes? Really???

Seattle will never be china... There will be an increase in bicycle traffic if you spend $13 million to make it easier to bicycle downtown, but how much?

The hills are steep, it rains a lot, even snows in the winter. Better bike lanes is not gong to make the city much more hospitable to bicycles. Spend the money on Education and homeless issues!

land for vets

I think Nickelsville should have their land and see if what they build will help others who need decent shelter. This would also mean land for vets since many are vets.

Seattle should build transitional housing for the homeless

Seattle should build transitional housing for the homeless During the 2010 Unsheltered Homeless Count, almost 3,000 people were sleeping outside. That does not include all of the people sleeping at shelters where they are evicted during the day. There are not enough beds in the shelters for all of the homeless people in Seattle. You know that with all of these bank foreclosures and the bad economy, the homeless situation ...more »

help the homeless

Open a city owned building to house the homeless. There are way too many needs for few beds at night. The city has buildings it can use for this. To help the homeless-. This would not cost any "new cost" to the city. How could it? Meanwhile, Empower the homless, help them find jobs, and more suitable housing. Everyone is hurting right now, and the homeless can not be forgotten.

Stop funding SHARE and seek better solutions for the homeless

I suggest you stop funding SHARE. SHARE is an activist organization, more concerned with advancing their own agenda and profiting from the city than with their supposed mission of bettering the homeless. SHARE recently moved a shelter into the Wallingford neighborhood this week through what has become a practiced model, of selecting a church to serve as a front (hiding behind the legislation that allows churches to behave ...more »

Either provide oversight to SHARE or move funding to new group

either require SHARE to be more transparent with its financial books and use an outside agency to provide oversight, or move the emergency shelter funding to another organization that is better able to handle its responsibilities. Though there is a definite need for homeless shelters, there are long standing problems with the current system. The city also needs to require a much more open and public process when setting ...more »

Save SHARE--and eliminate Paul Allen and other spec int projects

Save SHARE! I suggest you eliminate all funding for Paul Allen projects and other special interests--or charge those projects entirely to those special interests--and use some of the savings for SHARE. With those savings, you can probably also eliminate utility increases and other fee increases--and keep the parking fee structure the same. Seattle parking is already much higher than parking any where else I have been ...more »

Shelter as a necessity of life

I suggest you recognize permanent shelter as a necessity of life and aim, with the rest of government, to help people obtain access to it. Helping people obtain the necessities of life should be the top priority of government! Homelessness Kills!
