Make this a travel-destination location!

Make this a travel-destination location!

Many cities have something to bring in travelers.

Seattle has its inherent beauty.

And some Summer travelers come here because it's so beautiful then, but if we had things that made this a big-time travel-destination location, visitors could majorly contribute to increased revenues, to both the city and to area businesses.

Effective government

Combine .gov Web sites, to reduce waste, and increase efficiency!

Combine .GOV Web sites, to reduce waste, and increase efficiency! I don't know how many times I tried to find information about something -- maybe just about a Park! or a License! or Permit! -- but detailed information was spread all over the place, on multiple Web sites, and in multiple locations. Some Web designers today try to keep a page looking "clean" by removing all but some basic info, and then make us click ...more »

Increase the gas tax

SDOT spent $29 million on arterial paving last year (still not enough, most drivers would agree), yet only 0.44% of this was directly funded by users through the gas tax - most of this money came from bonds. Increase the gas tax to pay for more of Seattle's roads and other needs.

Effective government

Focus on efficiency city-wide

Start a program across all city offices to focus on efficiency. Ask all city staff to submit their ideas for making their world work more efficiently. Implement the best ideas. Employees whose ideas are implemented could be eligible for fun prizes, to encourage participation.

More traffic tickets

Breaking traffic laws kills people - more police writing tickets will make streets safer and bring in revenue.

Open some Beer Gardens

Open a few beer gardens (REAL beer gardens) in some of the larger parks. Change some of the puritanical laws this city has if you must. I'd pay a tidy sum to have a good beer on a summer day in a park beer garden.

Registration fee for bike commuters

Implement a bike registration fee for bike commuters. We are spending money to create special lanes (road diets, etc.) Why not have everyone pay to use, not just motor vehicle drivers.

Ðrivers' testing

Mandatory (written) driver's license testing every five years - if the driver has had any driving infractions and/or any tickets. Also randomly chose people to take the driving skills test.

Less campaign dollars

If only those running for public office would spend their millions of dollars on the community - rather than nasty ad campaigns and self-promoting.

Eliminate MOHAI funding

I suggest you eliminate annual funding for MOHAI. They are flush with cash due to their sweetheart land deal from the state, plus additional funds from the city. They have enough cash to last them years and are spending $20 million on luxury upgrades to their new staff building, due to their recent windfall. They clearly no longer need annual subsidies from the city. Spend MOHAI's annual city funds on more needy arts ...more »

Parks

Eliminate free parking

I've noticed many cars parked all day in our park's parking lots. I suspect many are neighbors and employees of local businesses. Put in parking meters to increase revenue and discourage long term free parking for non-park users.

Putt the driving range off the table

I suggest you...focus on keeping our existing pools and parks programs healthy. Our limited financial resources should NOT be spent on a new driving range that might create an extremely limited revenue stream in the future.
