Please reinstate funding for Domestic Violence Programs

The mayor's cuts to domestic violence intervention services will hurt those most at risk: very low-income women and children. The DV intevention program at Wellspring Family Services, which will be directly affected by this cut, has been very succesful. In fact, 86% of men who particpated in our program have stopped all forms of emotiona land physical abuse. This type of treatment is extremely effective in stopping the ...more »

Stricter oversight of Seattle Housing Authority

I suggest you place stricter rules and oversight for the Seattle Housing Authority Voucher Choice Program (Section 8). While this is a great program in spirit, the system is unable to effectively eliminate fraud and abuse of the program, due to it's own rules and regulations. Train the employees properly, and tighten the rules (verifications, random check-ups, proof required, zero tolerance for violators) so those who ...more »

Replace Programs with Services

stop having programs. programs are extremely costly for many reasons, but one of the reasons is because every time someone new comes into the scene, a new director, a new mayor, etc., then everything grinds to a halt to appease this new person with data. same with funders: many city workers spend half their time trying to (again) explain why their program is beneficial. time after time. if we, as seattle, believe that ...more »

Domestic Violence

My name is Laurakay Vernon, a member of Wellspring Family Services. I encourage you to support reinstating funding for domestic violence intervention services for very low-income families. I believe that this type of treatment is extremely effective in stopping the cycle of domestic violence and vital to keeping women and children safe.

Support Hunger Relief

I support the Mayor's budget for hunger relief which includes full funding for Seattle's food banks, meal programs and for Food Lifeline's assistance. Hunger is hitting Seattle residents hard. I'm a volunteer with Food Lifeline and see how far they can stretch a dollar with their efficient services and dedicated (and underpaid) staff.

Reinstate DV funding

Please reinstate the funding for domestic violence intervention services. Wellspring serves many people who have no other resources, and the children are so affected by this situation.

More Cuts Needed

Rather than putting more burden on the people that are still working with increased fees, reduce the spending further by additional cuts other than police and fire. Most people working have been so without a raise for at least a year, some longer, and some with pay reductions.

Privatize low-cost housing

I suggest you re-organize or privatize Seattle Housing Authority. Their stated mission is to become self-sufficient and be funded through the housing they develop. Instead, they are making sure to stay publicly funded, at the same time they find ways to prevent people from getting access to low-cost housing.

Cycle/culture of indigent lazy people

Kick out lazy 3rd and 4th generation public housing occupants and rent to people who are willing to pay their fair share. There are plenty of fruit picking jobs and housing in warmer states where they can go. For every 5 unwed mothers or deadbeat dads, 4 can pick fruit and the 5th can babysit the spawn of the next indigent generation, (opps, maybe if the spawn see the reality of how truely hard it is to live at the bottom ...more »
