Eliminate MOHAI funding

I suggest you eliminate annual funding for MOHAI. They are flush with cash due to their sweetheart land deal from the state, plus additional funds from the city. They have enough cash to last them years and are spending $20 million on luxury upgrades to their new staff building, due to their recent windfall. They clearly no longer need annual subsidies from the city. Spend MOHAI's annual city funds on more needy arts ...more »

Library Furloug

Have a 2nd furlough week for libraries during a low-use period such as between Christmas and New Years. The $650,000 savings generated could pay for 10-12 professional librarians so that higher quality library services could be provided year round, and there could be professional librarians at each branch.

Focus on Key Arena and McCaw Hall in the Seattle Center Budget!

Besides parking, Key Arena and McCaw Hall are the top sources of revenue in the Seattle Center Budget. Focus on maintaining the programs that both venues provide in order to continue to gain the same amount of revenue or possibly increase the revenue. That way, our city can better financially support the smaller, less expensive programs, such as Teen Tix or Winterfest, that provide less expensive, generally free entertainment ...more »

New phrase for your desktop: "It's the arts, stupid!"

You cannot make a city an attractive place to draw a tax base by cutting services. You have to increase revenues. That said, if cutting must take place, do not fall into the trap of trimming a little off of everything so that nothing is sustainable. One of the most important, cost-effective, employment-drawing, revenue-increasing, pollutant-free industries this city has is its arts industry. Irrespective of the ...more »

Ideascale is useless

I heard from good sources that Ideascale is only a way to pacify the constituents and to get the community more involved. The City council sees it as a joke and will not take any of the ideas put forward into consideration. Think of it as throwing a dog a bone!

Keep the Alki Community Center Open and Running

Cutting back hours and maintenance at Alki CC and the adjacent playfield makes no sense. The community needs this facility more than ever. There are too precious few safe places for young kids and teens to play in the Alki community.

Work something out with the communities but not with taxes. Do s

I will start out by saying...Don't cut the future short. It's here now!!! We can see it!! in those little toddlers...We were there once, our children were there once. Now for me it would have to be great- grandchildren but the way the world is, show some care and happiness in the little ones. It may be the only time in their lives for some of them that they wikll know sheer happiness. Going to the park, being with ...more »

employee share of the cost of benefits

1. Keep the cost of benefits in line with the private sector. I pay $500 per month for our family's health insurance and it's nowhere near as sweet as the ones that the City of Seattle employees have. The costs go up annually and our share goes up. It's not sustainable to have city employees on a completely different system where they are completely buffered from paying on par with the private sector. I roughly calculate ...more »
