Spread Equity Cut the Seattle Channel by 14.5% in line with DoIT

The City should cut the budget of the Seattle Channel by the 14.5% requested of the Department of Information and Technology. The City should support government programming but not the additional arts and cultural expenses currently associated with the Seattle Channel. The arts and cultural function are Public Access functions not a function of the Government channel.

Don't support Langston Hughes Arts Center over valuable programs

Do not transfer money from the Office of Arts and Culture to Parks and Recreation. Money that is spent through the OAC is economic development- providing jobs, creating events- all of which maintains jobs, stimulates revenue, spending, tourism and taxes. Langston Hughes is mostly an inactive organization that does not make the same impact (audience numbers and quality of life impact) that the hundreds of organizations... more »

Work something out with the communities but not with taxes. Do s

employee share of the cost of benefits

I pay $500 per month for our family's health insurance and it's nowhere near as sweet as the ones that the City of Seattle employees have. The costs go up annually and our share goes up. It's not sustainable to have city employees on a completely different system where they are completely buffered from paying on par with the private sector. I roughly calculate... more »

Ideascale is useless

I heard from good sources that Ideascale is only a way to pacify the constituents and to get the community more involved. The City council sees it as a joke and will not take any of the ideas put forward into consideration. Think of it as throwing a dog a bone!

Arts and culture

New phrase for your desktop: "It's the arts, stupid!"

You cannot make a city an attractive place to draw a tax base by cutting services. You have to increase revenues. That said, if cutting must take place, do not fall into the trap of trimming a little off of everything so that nothing is sustainable.

One of the most important, cost-effective, employment-drawing, revenue-increasing, pollutant-free industries this city has is its arts industry. Irrespective of the... more »
